So…when I posted about false eyelashes a few weeks ago…I mentioned a brand of magnetic lashes I had not tried. And…as I was publishing, they were offering 40% off select styles for Labor Day.
You see where this is going, right?
My curiosity keeps me youthful and engaged…and sometimes leads me down unanticipated paths. So, my curiosity + 40% off = a comparison review!
I thought I would give you a head to head comparison now that I’ve had a chance to live with both Moxielash and Glamnetic magnetic liners and lashes.
Packaging
You can see the similarity in packaging, though it’s worth pointing out that each brand also has other packaging in other styles. However, their basic eyelashes feel very similar.
Liner Comparison
You can see the liners are very similar. However, the brush on the Glamnetic liner is longer which I find a little harder to control. The Glamnetic liner is a bit more liquid than Moxielash. It’s neither here nor there, but I have challenges with liner to eyelid transfer while it dries so I prefer slightly drier formulas. The line thickness is very similar as is the darkness. However, the Glamnetic liner has a much stronger hold which can be good or bad. We’ll touch on that more later.
Lash Bands/Magnets
The lash band on the Moxielash looks thicker in the photos than the Glamnetic. However, in person, the actual band is heavier on the Glamnetic lash. The reason it looks so different is that the Moxielash has a thinner band but the magnets really stand out. For Glamnetic, the magnets are about the same size as the band so it doesn’t stand out as much. In the top over bottom comparison, you can see the Moxielash is more naturally curved and slightly shorter than the Glamnetic, which is longer and straighter.
Why does it matter? It’s all about eye size and shape. For me personally, the curve on the Moxielash conforms to my eye shape better. The Glamnetic lash is too long for my eye and really need to be trimmed back by at least one magnet.
One thing that really intrigued me about Glamnetic was their unique “lash anchors”.
Lash anchors are these super small, single magnet lash cluster that uses the more traditional “sandwich” approach to secure the lashes down on the inner and outer corners. I adore this idea. However, in practice, it’s much harder. Magnets have polarity that you have to respect as you put them on. I find using these little anchors – and removing them – more challenging than it’s worth. Points for innovative ideas but demerits for execution.
Don’t worry, I didn’t just test them on my hands, I wore each brand for an entire day so I could really have apples to apples comparison on them. They both lasted all day long without moving or feeling unsecure. They also lasted equally (almost disturbingly long) on my hand!
+Liner Application – as I mentioned before, I find the slightly drier formula of Moxielash and the shorter brush easier to apply accurately without transfer while it’s drying.
+ Liner Strength – this point goes to Glamnetic which really has a secure hold on the magnets.
+Liner Removal – the downside of strong liner is that it really pulls at the delicate skin of the eyelid for removal AND it’s harder to get off, even with an oil-based cleanser. For removal, Moxielash wins the point.
+Lash Band Comfort – because of size, length, and shape I have to give this point to Moxielash on my particular eye shape. Again if you have the right shape/size eye, I can see where you might prefer Glamnetic.
+Price Point – Moxielash products are just a wee bit more expensive than Glamnetic at full price. Glamnetic has the edge on affordability.
Final Thoughts
I really expected to be blown away by the innovation of Glamnetic. However, for me, simple is better and despite their really thoughtful innovations and serious holding power of their magnets, I will stick with Moxielash for comfort and ease of use – both in application and removal.
Have you tried either? What is your preference and why?
