Have you added podcasts to your entertainment repertoire yet?
I don’t listen to audiobooks much, but podcasts provide entertainment, education, information, and thoughtful discourse. I like to listen to them on a long drive or my favorite neighborhood walk. It keeps my mind fed.
When I heard Julia Louis Dreyfus plug her new show on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend (another podcast addiction), I knew I had to check it out. After all, her premise is that we should learn things from women who are wiser than us. Julia Louis Dreyfus is unabashedly 62 years old and interviews iconic women who have even more years of life experience under their belts.
In a word, this podcast is inspirational. It’s very much along the lines of this blog – which seeks to answer how do we age? How do we grow old? What can we learn from each other along the way?
For me, having binged the podcast over the past several weeks, I’m energized and invigorated by the stories these women are willing to share. They sound so full of life, so passionate for living, so “young” in their perspective. Aspirational!!
Perhaps a favorite part of the show for me is the wrap up where Julia calls her mother to decompress about the person she spoke with and the lessons she learned.
Here’s the podcast line up to date:
- Jane Fonda (85) Actor, Activist, Icon
- Isabel Allende (80) Author
- Fran Lebowitz (72) Writer
- Ruth Reichl (75) Food Writer
- Darlene Love (81) Singer
- Diane von Furstenberg (76) Fashion Designer
- Gina McCarthy (69) Environmental Advocate
- Amy Tan (71) Author
- Rhea Perlman (75) Actor
Julia Louis Dreyfus is candid about her own life experiences, does an excellent job interviewing these amazing women, and tosses about some colorful expletives that surprise and delight me. The time passes and I find myself wanting more.
This is community building. This is embracing our shared sisterhood. This…is worth a listen!!
