In March 2022, I reviewed some eye masks and landed on my “then” favorite. I’m not a fickle fan so much as I chase perfection. I was ready to stop looking after the last ones.
However, my sister didn’t love them. In my head I wasn’t solving a problem for me – I was solving a problem for my sister. When I learned that *gasp* my favorite wasn’t hers – I took the time to listen to what she liked.
Here’s what HER criteria were.
- Lightweight (not too much pressure on the eyes)
- Comfortable (not too much sensation around the back of the head)
- Silk (other materials were uncomfortable or reactive for her)
- Washable (no one needs a grimy eye mask)
- Cute (no one wants to look ridiculous next to their loved one in bed)
I thought these were MY criteria but she helped me understand that my tolerance for weight and pressure did not match hers.
Enter Dora and Rose eye masks, specifically the Deep Sleep Mask.
Why They Are Great
These are the widest eye masks I’ve ever seen. I was shocked to discover that this is a big part of the advantage. Not only are they soft and silk and breathable, but being wide, there is no pressurem on the back of your head or over your ears. They don’t allow light in the sides because they cover everything. Granted they are not the cute little version that you see in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but they are 1000% more comfortable and they barely mess up your hair.
The eye masks travel easily because they are so soft and pliable. They don’t make your skin breakout and can help your evening product stay in place to hydrate and renew your skin. They are also washable (I recommend a bag, the gentle cycle, and air dry). The wide adjustable velcro on the back means they adjust to fit a broad range of heads.
If you are photo sensitive, like me, and extra particular, like my sister – then I think you should really try these out. They are available in a stunning array of colors, a great gift for friends and family (gorgeous packaging), and they will make you clear out all of the substandard eye masks we’ve all put up with over the years.
My sleep has substantially improved. I stay asleep longer and deeper with the dark, cozy environment they create. I sleep on my back but they stay in place if I curl up to side-sleep as well.
Are they cute? Well, that’s a matter of personal taste, but in my opinion they are as cute as eye masks can get. I don’t like the ones with the thin straps that leave marks in your hair, push your hair up into a messy bed head, or slide down and make your ears stick out at weird angles.
Best thing? They are currently on sale so go check them out!
Move over eye masks – I have a new favorite and NOW I’m done looking! I swear!
