Review: H10 Casa Mimosa Hotel

Review: H10 Casa Mimosa Hotel

After our trip to Valencia, we decided to kick around Barcelona Spain for a few days. We took an approach of divide and conquer. I got the airfare settled and George took care of the hotel.

This worked out surprisingly well. We both prefer to stay at places that are not big box hotels. I like boutique hotels and George likes funky twists to his stays. He managed to find a nice middle ground for the two of us.

Let me start by saying that compared to hotel prices in the United States, we thought both Valencia and Barcelona hotel rates were extremely reasonable! We paid what it might cost to stay at a Motel 6 or Hampton Inn in the U.S.

H10 Hotel Group

We were not familiar with the H10 Hotel Group but they have hotels in Spain, Europe, and the Caribbean. In Barcelona alone, they have 16 hotels under their umbrella! That’s a massive selection to choose from…but dare I say that I think George picked the best one!

Our criteria was to be centrally located to as many sights as possible so we could easily walk to our sightseeing destinations.

Getting There

Though it’s certainly possible to walk from the Barcelona Sants train station (about a mile away) we opted to take a taxi from the train station to the hotel which only cost us about 12 Euros. It was so much easier that we decided on the spot that we would go to the airport the same way!

The entrance to the hotel is fairly unassuming. It is marked but it sits in the middle of a block. There is a small overhang but the doorman was quick to come to our side when we exited the taxi. They were still requiring masks be worn in common areas during our visit.

As you can see it is fairly unassuming from the outside but filled with stunning architectural details inside. It’s clearly a historic building that was repurposed as a hotel. The staff was friendly and thankfully spoke excellent English.

The hotel grounds are stunning. Looking at a map of Barcelona it looks like most block are ringed with buildings but there are central courtyards. The hotel takes up the majority of the center courtyard with a lovely outdoor patio, a water feature, a building behind the patio that has a pool/sundeck, and then another rooftop pool, bar, and terrace.

The Room

George selected a room with an outdoor terrace. When you look at the back of the hotel, they are on the 6th floor and the roofdeck pool is just above it on the 7th level. Again we found a king bed which was luxurious. For the historic feel of the building exterior, the interior is very modern, comfortable and chic.

The bathroom was massive and had plenty of room for the two of us. There was great counter space and a really luxurious shower. The provided shampoo and shower gel was a bit too perfumed for us both, but we rarely use them when we travel.

The view from the terrace was stunning. You can see the patio on the first floor, the sundeck across from the hotel and then – to the left Gaudi’s most famous La Pedrera. For as magnificent as it was during the day, it was even better at night! It was so stunning we spent as much time on the terrace as possible but in better/warmer weather – I’d be hard pressed to leave it to go sightseeing!

Things to Consider

These are some of the things we appreciated:

  • a safe that fit two full size laptops
  • in-room coffee service (nespresso pods and biscuits)
  • complimentary beverages and water on the first day
  • a well stocked mini bar (we did not use it but it’s always a nice convenience)
  • the terrace – simply stunning views. Despite the cool weather, we sat out on it as often as possible.
  • the shower

Again there were no washclothes so we assume this is standard for Spain? Next time I’ll make sure I pack a couple to take along!

The Neighborhood

The reason we picked this hotel was location, location, location. It is fairly easy walking distance to most major sites. Of course you can see the back of Gaudi’s La Pedrera from the terrace or rooftop. It is simply a stunning work of art and well worth the cost of admission. It is on the same block, around the corner. There is no excuse for missing it!

La Rambla is only a bit beyond it and just under half a mile away you can see Gaudi’s Casa Batlló. La Sagrada Familia (another must not miss sight) is less than a mile away in the other direction.

There are wonderful places to eat all around the hotel area providing plenty of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course the hotel serves some meals but we wanted to be out exploring Barcelona.

Perhaps the MOST convenient thing was the testing center for COVID. In order to travel back to the United States, we needed to have a negative test within 3 days of departure (to the US). The test site was only one block from the hotel and it was easy peasy. More about this in next week’s post about our trip!

Although there are many hotels to choose from in Barcelona, we would definitely stay at this hotel again if we find our way back to Barcelona anytime soon! We recommend it without hesitation!!
